Zur-Anbat Geopolitical Map by Daemoria Zur-Anbat Geopolitical Map by Daemoria
Reference image for my post-human fantasy "Ziggurat" setting. Some major locations in the City have been labeled, for future reference, and consistency's sake. Goza will be adventuring beyond the Haze soon.

Satellite reference image coming soon(tm).

If I may ask, how do you make such realistic looking landmasses?

Use lots of reference, and take your time. I will eventually get around to illustrating a satellite view of this landmass. Google-earth is invaluable for reference.

Additionally, I used a exported world from the game 'Dwarf Fortress' to provide the overall form. The entire Ziggurat setting is based on a highly modded game of Dwarf Fortress I played years back.

Say, do you have any pointers when it comes to drawing ships?

The central lake was a glacier once?

Not quite, the scale is thousands of kilometers across. The central *sea* is formed from continental drift.

...and you say Dwarf Fortress served up the initial ruined megalopolis? (How long did you run that simulation?) Cool though, not seen a map that felt this fresh since the early days of the 'net!

I think I ran the simulation for 7000 years or so, and used the history generated to give me a start to the story in my mind. Elves had gone extinct, and dwarven civilization had dwindled to something like 4 mountain halls.

Thanks.

Tourist season is closed on the main continent, but  I can book a travel reservation for the Crucible. I hear it's lovely this time of millennium. The sulfur lakes are especially beautiful underneath the pyroclastic flow of the volcanoes.

Thanks. It was a bit of a pain to actually finish, because of all the fiddly bits with the megacity. Hopefully the satellite image will not be as boring to illustrate. :v

Seems to have paid off in the end though, since it seems fairly well received.

I was using google-earth for reference, after blocking in the initial shape rendered from Dwarf Fortress world export. The large river chain on the west side of the continent is referenced from the Amazon river.

Maybe? Depends on how complicated you want the map to be, and if you have some reference images.

Thanks man! Your Dredd megacity maps was an wake up call to me actually getting this finished. It was a bit of a slog to illustrate, but I figured it was a necessary addition to my gallery. Sort of vital to have a map, if you're world building, right?

Absolutely and your kind words are very much Appreciated and they are presently getting a make-over. Wherein the original images (the second generation ones presently in my gallery which will not be updated) will remain, I am presently improving on them and returning in part to my original format with a more 'compu-card' look to them and will be re-drawing the megacities with emphasis on a more realistic expansion and boundary definition as inspired by the actual comic book maps. Additionally, you may have noticed the creation of the East-Meg One symbol ... something Soviet Bloc shaped is on the horizon komrade.
