I did a rough sketch a while back, it's a little small in this, because i did it too quickly and never fixed it. but i think based on the scale of the Red Horizon (1.7km long) the BMF is 15.75km or so from 'mouth' to tail tip.
Dear Council, it is normal for me and my peers to support the side who fight for freedom and justice. Thank you very much, I won't forget to report your words to the Star Systems Subjected Council. [I don't know if it's the good translation for "Conseil des Systèmes Stellaires Soumis", which is in french]
I really like the design of the ships. Composition-wise, though, you're making the viewer work hard to see what's going on, because of the uniform values (dark ships against a dark planet against dark space) and all of the visual tangents (everything is overlapping something else, and usually something of a similar value). It took me a long time of looking at the image before I realized there were five ships in the middle distance, because most of them are hidden in the background elements. Varying the light/dark value of the different elements will help to separate them. Even just increasing the contrast of the lighting on the bits that are lit (such as the ships in the foreground) would help.
Very good points AriochIV. I knew the composition was kinda weak, the crushed camera angle didn't really help the sense of depth either. I'll take your advice on the lighting to heart, it's still one of my weakest skills, and can stand to be improved.
Next image will be better I hope, I still have a bit of improvement in this old body of mine.
The petals do in fact act as armor plating when covered, and are closed when it needs to be 'night time'. I really should do a full design study of the station, because as you probably noticed, there is a lot of stuff going on with it.
I'm glad you enjoy the design. I had a lot of fun interpreting the O'neill colony design.
This is lovely! I adore the designs, the lighting is great, the planet is very good, and you didn't make the mistake of showing a star field and a planet in the same LDR image! The color and shading is so good, I am wondering: is this a color/paint-over of a 3D base image? ...or are you just that good?
Yea! I'm glad you caught that the LDR exposure was a deliberate decision. I see too many images of bright spaceships in front of a equally bright star field. It just makes for a messy composition more often than not, because you have to worry about patterns from the stars interfering with the rest of the scene.
Messy composition, and not at all what you'd see if you were there. Mind you, not all art aspires to be 'what you'd see'... but I always think that's the goal, so I really liked it when I noticed you had it 'right'.
I do wonder thought about the Soviets foreign policy: as far I get it, the NATO Cote forces attacked Kasparov CIA thinking they where soviets, which will suggest they have a state of war:
if NATO is at war with Kasparov: how come the Soviets will have as a mutual enemy? shouldn't the ones doing this be the NATO instead? the soviets, standing aside, or looking for an alliance against the ones who destroyed one of their cruisers?
Because as far I know, the soviets mutual enemy, rather than being Kasparov, wouldn't be the NATO, and therefore their re-allignement shouldn't go instead seeking NATO enemies?
The Soviet economy isn't what it used to be. They're seeking a non-aggression pact backed by a trade agreement to shore up their national budget. They're not fighting anybody yet. Besides, they don't know who's at war with who. They only know NATO attacked an unknown force, though the details are still murky. For all they know NATO attacked these guys!
One of the many problems of owning a planet. Nomads for life!
Well, technically the Laughing Swarm has a home, but I've got to come up with a decent visual representation of it first. Trans-dimensional spaces that cause blindness when looked at with the naked eye are difficult to convey in an effective image.
Nomad pirates sound cool. You have some really cool concepts. My two other planets are still active(but not in the war) They'll nothing more but collections of small farm colonies and small Mos Esily like space ports. The capital planet is getting help from Goeliath's Red Cross program right now.
This looks so amazing. Another great pic as always. I love the work you did here.
An unknown location where Kasparov can't barge in and try anything tricky. I like. Seriously though you're worth every credit. If you need to use a shipyard to make more ships, we got a few open if you're feeling outgunned.
Thank you for the offer. We have certain 'resources' available to us at this time that we simply wish to hold in reserve. No need to needlessly expend, or reveal too much of us yet. Besides, slow-space is such a vulnerable place to put production facilities...
I'm going to do a fleet staging image, to show off the Mirror Horizon dimension, and then probably do a bit of raiding. I received those coordinates for the trade-lines, may the future hold much profit and blood! >:]
