If you're smart enough to design FTL, aren't you smart enough to get rid of your waste heat via weapons discharge? :P

There still is no FTL in this 'universe'. So no discharging heat into convenient pocket dimensions or whatever.

Nice stuff! Do you have more info somewhere on this 'universe'? I love hard scifi stuff.

Hey omi-kun, have'nt seen you around in ages!

This universe (Solar Wind) is part of a game project proposal I've had kicking around for ages.
You control a salvage vessel, the Triskellen. The vessel itself has gone through many revisions actually, i'm still trying to nail the look. The object of the kinda sandbox story is to find out what exactly is wrong with the sector, why the system's sun is so active (elder god star child birthing pain) and to potentially lead the lost colony of humans into the new Renaissance of space exploration again.
The sleeper ship that took them to this system is a target for a salvage op, but I've never got around to designing it actually...

Here are other pictures from the Solar Wind universe.

Also of note, there are no shields, in addition to no FTL. I like my ships to have layers of armor.

Well, I do. All my designs tend to have some sort of heat radiators. Glad I am not alone. ;)

Wouldn't you just want to disperse heat through the surface area of the hull? Granted it would make you a big target in space but it would certainly be efficient. Venting our ports implies you are actually dumping your heat exchange medium. Seems extreme being that outer space basic provides infinite cooling; that must be some serious heat you're creating onboard ;P

yep, the heating medium in this case is dead nanites in a semi-fluid suspension, they provide a near perfect blackbody when they are 'dead'. Before the enter the heating inter-change, they provide air and repair functionality, so they are fairly versatile, and take up minimal space (blocks of carbon in the hull).

Yea, the heat build up *is* pretty extreme, but its needed. It's the most efficient way to stealth in this game, because cloaking devices and other such methods simply don't exist. In addition to absorbing heat while in battle, the ship has to take into account Solar Wind (name of the game, after all).

Sounds pretty cool in concept! :3 Be fun if you gave venting "coolant" a very distinct appearance to make it "a thing" for the player and be very clear that they're not vernier thrusters or the like~
