Megalith Non by Daemoria Megalith Non by Daemoria
Experimenting with making massive 'alien' space vessel shapes. This will eventually be part of a much more intricate scene. Still working out the details in photoshop before I take the mesh to the next level.

Really dig the design! You may want to consider a thinner line for your toon shading. A thinner line will make it seem even more massive.

This was one of my earliest images I produced upon my return to art. Thicker lines are quicker, and imply more detail than what is implacably drawn. It's the balancing point between speed and detail, but its a very different style of rendering to the Sparth/Feng Zhu school of thought. I personally think I've reached a nice balance between scale and line thickness in my latest pieces.

The scale was never really established for this design in particular. It really was anything between 400 meters long to a side, to larger than a mountain. It's a veeery rough concept.

Colourbrand did a awesome fanart of this piece. He chose to err on the side of massive. :}

Ya, I saw the fanart. I'm personally a fan of smaller details, if you haven't checked them out, see my spaceship hull images in my gallery to see what I mean.

Ya, I found your hull textures years ago. I think I first saw them on ...CGSociety, I think? And more recently (still a couple years back, at this point) on Zbrush central. I've got a folder of some of your older stuff on my archive harddrive... I've been a silent watcher for some time now.

I would love to do detail laden pieces, and sometimes I do go in depth, but that's for specifically rendered scenes. Concept art like this is really just visual short hand for modeling more detail into the basemesh. I just don't have the time, or really the interest to sink weeks into an image.
I've had several people mention the thick lines to me during this era of drawing. Not so much on the recent pieces. Maybe they all gave up in disgust at the huge black lines covering everything? :}

 Super Dreadnought Axbet and Battleship - Red Horizon were done around the time of this image, but I spent significantly more time on them. This was a 1 hour mesh, and maybe 30 minutes or so of doodling in photoshop before I was happy with a hull pattern, if mem serves me.

I'm reminded of the massive alien craft in, "Oblivion".

This is pretty cool.

Interesting take on a "Sinister Geometry" Spaceship design.

You have any idea which one in particular? A lot of my newer designs have rough 3d meshes that you can use for reference.

I saw, and I like how he enhanced the detail. Almost looks like something I'd see out of some sort of Sci-Fi Shooter video game.

For some reason, this ship reminds me of The Borg from Star Trek as well.

I do admit I pulled a little bit of the shape from there. That movie and cut-gems were the main source of inspiration. Thanks. :D

Sure, the final design will be some what different from this, but if you want to do your own interpretation, go right ahead. Please credit me when you do tho.
